Six Brain Foods You Need As You Age

Did you know that the food we eat has a very powerful effect on our brains? When we eat things we love, we get pleasure from the food we are eating, but there are foods that we eat that make us feel good physically, too. Food can help us to maintain how sharp we think, and some foods can even prevent Alzheimer’s disease from progressing as fast.

As we get older, these benefits are more important than ever before. Brain conditions are more of a worry, and when we feel our brains start to get a little foggy, we need that goodness to keep us feeling alive and well. You can take a look at the list of food below and learn which food you will need as you age to keep your brain as healthy as possible.

  • Arugula. Did you know that leafy greens eaten on a regular basis can make people feel great? It’s high in the right minerals and vitamins that increase and improve the blood flow to the brain. The blood vessels dilate and lower your blood pressure. You can eat it cooked or raw, and you can add it to meals for a boost!
  • Blueberries. Berries are known to be a part of the healthy MIND diet, which is a mix of the Mediterranean diet and the diets designed to stop hypertension. Blueberries are also known to be a key ingredient in slowing down the progression of Alzheimer’s. They are packed full of antioxidants and can help you to strengthen the brain cell communication you rely on day to day. You can use them in anything, from smoothies to fruit salads, and they make for an excellent addition to pancakes in the morning.
  • Yolks. There are plenty of myths that tell you not to eat the yolks because of added cholesterol – Netflix has a lot to answer for here! However, the yolk is packed with choline, a B-complex vitamin that will boost brain health. Eating your yolks will help your brain cells to communicate efficiently. The yolks can be used in scrambles, omelets, frittatas and more!
  • Olive Oil. You do not need to stay away from olive oil or any oil to be healthy. Your brain tissues need support and strength, and olive oil in small doses will help you to remain healthy and keep your brain working well.
  • Salmon. This salmon salad recipe is going to be packed full of Omega-3s, which is going to reduce inflammation and stress in the brain. Without Omega-3, your brain can shrink prematurely. Salmon is a delicious way to boost your brain health and it’s going to be something you can add to any meal in the day. From salmon and egg breakfasts to salmon salads and even steamed salmon and rice, there are a lot of ways to eat the particular fish. If you head to my recipe section you’ll find my take on a salmon salad as well!
  • Walnuts. If plants and fish benefit the brain, it’s important to know that nuts can, too. Walnuts are high in the right ingredients to improve the health of the brain!
